April 2008

Burlington BPW Announces New Officers The Burlington Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) organization held its annual election of officers at the group’s April 9 meeting at the Sirloin Saloon in Shelburne. Executive officers for the 2008-2009 year will be as follows:

Maria Millikin of Fairfax was elected President of the organization. Millikin, who has served as Vice President and President-Elect of BPW, currently works as a commercial insurance producer for Smith, Bell & Thompson in Burlington.

Leslie Higgins of Burlington was elected President-Elect in charge of issues management. She most recently worked as an indirect sourcing leader at GE Healthcare in South Burlington.

Caisil Weldon of Essex was elected Vice President in charge of membership. Weldon currently works as corporate events and marketing director for the Northeast Affiliate of the American Heart Association office in Williston.

MaryEllen Mendl of Colchester will serve her second term as Burlington BPW’s Secretary. She serves as director of the Vermont 2-1-1 program of the United Ways of Vermont in South Burlington.

Kathryn Parker of Waltham will serve her second term as Treasurer for the organization. Parker is a senior loan officer for Williston Mortgage.

February 2008

Courtney Engelbach On Thursday, February 28, 2008, Courtney Engelbach and her husband, Wes, welcomed their second child to the world. Courtney gave birth to a daughter, Vivian Irene Engelbach. She was born at 2:04 AM and weighed 7 pounds even and was 19 inches long.

Marcia Merrill Burlington BPW member and Vermont Commission on Women Chair Marcia Merrill and the VCW issued the sixth edition of their report on the status of women and girls in Vermont. To link to the report, visit http://www.women.state.vt.us/

Heather Paine 2007 Burlington BPW Young Careerist and member Heather Paine and her business partner Casey were featured on the 6 p.m. news on WCAX-TV Channel 3 on Fri., Jan. 4, regarding their business Candles & Creations. Heather and Casey were also featured in a front-page story in the Living section of the Dec. 4, 2007 Burlington Free Press.

November 2007

Kathryn Parker Treasurer Kathryn Parker and her husband Lonnie welcomed their first child, a son named Dakota Weston Parker, on Tues., Oct. 23, 2007. He weighed 7 lbs., 10 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches. “Dakota is cute as a button!” according to Jennifer Nachbur, Nancy Moreland who visited the day after he was born and board members who met Dakota at the November board meeting.
