June 2009
June President’s Letter
Greetings Burlington BPW members/friends!
June is arriving; and we all look forward to a sunnier and warmer month than May. We have paid our winter dues. It’s time to change into our summer attire and look forward to enjoying the outdoors and all the wonderful activities available to us in our beautiful surroundings.
As we leave the month of May, I would like, once again, to pay respects to our dear lost member, Evelyn Biddle. She will be greatly missed by her family, the Burlington BPW membership, friends, and everyone who knew and loved her. Mary Claire Carroll, our Website Chair, announced she would like to create a Special Page on our website in honor of Evelyn. Members will be encouraged to share thoughts and memories of Evelyn.
We will show our love and devotion not just through words but also through action. At the May membership business meeting on May 13, the membership voted in favor of a proposal to make a donation to the scholarship held by Lang for Evelyn Biddle’s granddaughter. The Burlington BPW will match the first $200 in donations made by individual members. Please give generously. The deadline to mail your donation checks in is June 10.
The BPW/USA and BPW Foundation Merger passed. Big changes are coming. I can’t say it better so I quote from BPW/USA, Diane Polangin’s letter, “As the transition begins, the Joint Transition Task Force and the BPW Foundation Board of Trustees will begin future planning. In addition State and Local Organizations Transition Issues Team (SLOTI) will continue to provide information and best practices that will assist State Federations and Local Organizations to continue their important work after the merger is completed on June 30, 2009. Watch for future communications about task force efforts, as we will be looking for your input.” We have a lot of work ahead of us this year!
In June we look forward to State Convention on June 5-7 at the Windjammer Inn and Conference Center in South Burlington Vermont. Our BPW is responsible for the Emblem Ceremony this year. It will be an honor to present this traditional and symbolic ceremony at our State Convention on Friday evening, June 5. Young Careerist, Kim Odachowski, will be making a presentation on Saturday. She is a very talented young woman, and we are so proud to have her as a member. If you have not signed up, please do! It will be a wonderful convention and the more members, the merrier.
Our June Program will be presented by Kim DuBrul, a Certified Group Power Coach, who will be talking to us about her business, Year of Transformation. Kim is a coach in life, business, and athletic transformation. Don’t miss this exciting presentation.
Keep your spirits and BPW involvement high. We have lots of new and exciting events coming up and you don’t want to miss out!
Most Respectfully,
Leslie Higgins
