President's Message
October 2010
Greetings Burlington BPW
members/friends!
This month represents a focus
on the Professional in BPW.
Nationally, October is the month we
celebrate National Business
Women's Week. Many
organizations annually celebrate
business women during the third
week of October. Many programs
showcase women's organizations,
speakers, luncheons, and more. In
our L.O., we announce the
nominations and awards of the
Woman of the Year, Woman of
Achievement, and Employer of the
Year. The awards are given at our
business and dinner meeting. This
year we have moved these awards
into November.
Please submit your
nominations to me or to Caisil
Weldon, President-Elect as soon as
possible! We will need time to
review and contact the Employer of
the Year to ensure they can attend
our meeting to accept the award!
Vermont BPW is holding the
fall Job Expo this year on Thursday,
October 15 at the Sheraton in South
Burlington! As at all Job Expos,
they can always use help in the
form of members. Please contact
Lindy Hatcher or Pat Nowak to
volunteer!
October is also a good month
to renew your commitment to your
BPW sisters, our L.O., and the
Vermont BPW by renewing your
membership. I know there are many
questions about how much to
charge and how to process dues.
Vermont State President, Lindy
Hatcher, has scheduled a
conference call on October 6 at 7PM
to address this topic. If you have
questions about the status of your
membership, how much to pay, and
to whom to submit dues; please
contact me. Dues are less
expensive this year, so please
rejoin if you have not already done
so!
October is also the month of
Breast Cancer Awareness. This is
the 25th year of women and men
sharing awareness, education, and
empowerment surrounding breasPresident’s Letter
cancer. Around the country people
have organized hikes, walks, and
even Denim wearing days. This
year the Vermont Cancer Center is
presenting the 12th Annual Breast
Cancer Conference on October 24
at the Sheraton in South Burlington.
Sessions and Exhibitions are free
so we should all plan to attend.
And wear pink (especially in this
month of orange, red, and yellow
colors)!
To me October is a month to
view the changing and the falling of
the leaves, wear sweaters, again;
pick apples and pumpkins and
make pies. It is a great month to
ride bikes and hike. And for the
young at heart, it is the month to
end the month in costume greeting
trick-or-treaters!
Boo!
Most Respectfully,
Leslie
