President's Message

February 2010

Greetings Burlington BPW members/friends!

February fast approaches and Burlington BPW is very busy with activities as usual! Here are some of the highlights:
We look forward to the Young Careerist Program that will be held at our Business and Dinner Meeting this month. Our Young Careerist Chair and 2009-10 Burlington Young Careerist, Kim Odachowski, has worked tirelessly on the event. She has the judges and the contestants lined up and ready to go. It promises to be an exciting evening.
The 2010 Go Red for Women Forum & Luncheon takes place on February 18. Our President-Elect and Corporate Events and Marketing Director of American Heart Association, Caisil Weldon, has her hands and heart full in this event. There are many members involved in this endeavor to educate women about heart health. If you have not reserved a table or seat, there is still time. Please contact Caisil if you need more information!
We have a new monthly event in our L.O. this year initiated by our Civic Affairs Chair, Barbara Swinton. On the second Sunday of each month, members from our BPW cook dinner for the residents of Hope Lodge in Burlington. For those not familiar with this facility; it is a product of the American Cancer Society to offer cancer patients and their families/care givers a free and temporary place to stay when they must seek medical treatment in an area far from home. Our members enjoyed cooking and dining with residents on January 10 and will be doing their next dinner on Sunday, February 14. Please contact Barbara Swinton to get involved at this next dinner!
Burlington BPW Member, Diana Whitney, recently underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery and is doing well and should be home recuperating in a few days (at the time of writing this letter-Jan 23, 2010). Please send her your well wishes and try to schedule some time to visit her once she is home!
Besides Ground Hog Day, Valentine’s Day, President’s Birthdays, notably the more commercial events of the month; there is one birthday that we should all remember. February 15 is the birthday of Susan B. Anthony, a woman who brought attention to and fought for many causes for women; Suffrage, Property Rights, the right to hold public positions, just to name a few. Happy Birthday, Susan; and thank you!
Our next board meeting is Wednesday, February 3; and our next business meeting and dinner is Wednesday, February 10. I hope to see you soon!

Most Respectfully,

Leslie Higgins
Burlington BPW President
