WBON Spring Seminar/May 13 Women Business Owners Network (WBON) presents Spring Seminar: Getting People Talking...and Listening...to What You Have To Offer - Daylong conference Thursday, May 13 at the Hilton Conference Center, Burlington. Women Business Owners Network's annual spring seminar on marketing features experts in public relations, online marketing, community networking and business planning. Spend the day learning and the evening laughing: after dinner the Vermont Comedy Divas Show (7:30-9:00 pm) benefits the Vermont Women's Business Center, a not-for-profit organization providing business counseling at no charge to women entrepreneurs in Vermont. Vermont Women's History Project has a new home at Vermont Historical Society The Vermont Historical Society now provides a permanent home for the Vermont Women's History Project. Started by the Vermont Commission on Women in 2004, the site is a database of individual Vermont women searchable by geographical area, time period, and area of influence. Individual Development Program 2010 Feel nervous running a meeting or speaking in public? Burlington BPW offers a program designed for women to give you the tools you need to ask for a raise, ace an interview,or breakthrough your performance anxiety. This very interactive program will run four Saturdays from 9am to 12noon at the Carpenter- Carse Library in Hinesburg. Dates are March 20th,March 27, April 3, and April 17th.
Instructor and contact is Marie Eddy at 482-2645,evenings. Cost is $30. Warning...you may never stop speaking once you take this program.
Breakfast with Champions The Girl Scouts of the Green and White mountains welcomes nominations for the Breakfast with Champions awards. The Vermont event takes place Tuesday May 4th Champions make significant contributions through their work, philanthropy and/or community service. They have broken through gender barriers in their field of endeavor, moved forward with “out of the box” ideas, served as powerful, positive role models for girls and walked the talk of the Girl Scout mission. AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship Program AARP Foundation Women’s Scholarship Program
The AARP Foundation’s Women’s Scholarship Program provides scholarship funds to women 40+ seeking new job skills, training and educational opportunities to support themselves and their families. The AARP Foundation’s Women’s Scholarship Program is available to eligible individuals with moderate to lower incomes and limited financial resources.
To be eligible to apply for the scholarships, applicants must be:
Women
Age 40 or over by March 31, 2010
U.S. Citizen
Able to demonstrate financial need
Enrolled in an accredited school or technical program in the U.S. , within 6 months of the scholarship award date.

For President:
CAISIL WELDON
Caisil joined Burlington BPW in 2007 and has served as Vice President and President-Elect. Caisil has just completed her stint as Corporate Events and Marketing Director at the American Heart Association's with a very successful Go Red for Women Luncheon. She will begin her new career in the Development Office of the Fletcher Allen Health Care this month. Prior to joining the AHA in 2006, Caisil held positions in marketing and special programs at Cabot Creamery. She graduated from St. Michael's College in 2001. Caisil lives in Westford with her husband Matt Weldon and two adorable sons.
For Vice President:
MARYELLEN MENDL
MaryEllen joined Burlington BPW in December 2006 and is currently serving as Vice President. Before that, she has served as Secretary of the organization for two years. She was named Burlington BPW Woman of the Year in October 2008. Currently the director of the United Way of Vermont's statewide 2-1-1 program, she has worked for the United Way (UW) system for more than 20 years.
For Treasurer:
LISA HEALD
Lisa Heald joined Burlington BPW in 2009, and immediately stepped up to the plate by becoming the organization’s treasurer. She currently works for the City of Burlington Treasurer's Office as a Financial Assistant to their Payroll Department and has lived in Burlington's New North End for many years. She is ideally suited to hold the position of treasurer, as she has been in a financially-related career since 1981.
For Secretary:
ANGELIQUE O’KEEFE
Angelique joined the Burlington BPW in 2008 and almost immediately became an active member of the organization. She has served as Secretary for the 2009-2010 year and participated in the Young Careerist competition in 2009. She works in medical billing at the Fletcher Allen Health Care. Angelique will be taking this spring’s Individual Development course
For Auditors:
CAROL MORSE and BARBARA SWINTON
Both Carol and Barbara have been longtime members of BPW, having both joined in 1970. They have been members of the Chittenden Count, Franklin County and now Burlington LO. Carol and Barbara have held numerous positions in BPW, most notably both being State President (Carol in 1980-81 and Barbara in 1986-87). While they are retired, they are both busier than ever. Carol. a retired nurse, has been working non-stop for the VNA, giving flu shots here, there and everywhere! Barb can be found working at the Chamber of Commerce, or ushering at the Flynn. Barb was named Burlington BPW’s Woman of the Year this year.

Dues One of the changes created by the recent merger is that BPW USA dues are expected to be paid this year and will be transferred to the new organization. Members may request a refund proration of dues from BPW USA it must be in writing by the member and received by BPW USA by June 15, 2009. They will be considered after all expenses have been paid. The below Refund letter should have the members personal address on it not the Burlington BPW mailing address.
This will be discussed at State Convention and into the next year.
